Izabelin’s Senior Cabaret Group: How to revive classics?

A group of senior citizens in Izabelin has discovered an unexpected passion: acting and cabaret. Over the last few years, they have formed a remarkable cabaret group, bringing a fresh and lively perspective to the stage.

Their adventure with theatre began with theater classes led by a professional animator. They not only honed their acting skills but also ignited a cabaret soul within them. Their enthusiasm got them to the moment where they were ready to put on a real professional show.

Two years ago, this talented group took a bold step by staging a performance titled “Variations with Pan Tadeusz”, a unique interpretation of the classic work by Adam Mickiewicz. This performance was not just a play; it was a cabaret rendition, adding a humorous and light-hearted twist to the Polish literary masterpiece.

Seniors presented three events: in Izabelin’s House of Culture, in a Performance Hall in Izabelin, and in the House of Culture in Warsaw. It was an open invitation to, with free admission. Only free tickets were required.

The senior actors graced the stage in beautiful, borrowed costumes, their performances enhanced by engaging music and captivating visuals.

What is more, the traditional Polish dances – oberek and kujawiak enriched the show.  There was no shortage of interaction with the audience- tradicional dance- polonaise, where the actors invited the audience to join in, creating a delightful dance experience. This blend of theatre, dance, and audience participation made the event something more than just a performance.

The response to the cabaret was very positive.  The seniors started to plan another performance.
