The first pilot training within the ITOSA project in Serbia was held on February 27–28, 2025 at the Senior Club in Paracin. Fourteen senior participants took part in this interactive event led by CDER facilitators. The workshop introduced the In-group Social Learning method, designed to foster peer-to-peer learning, exchange of life experiences, and collaborative problem-solving.

The workshop began with a warm introduction to the principles of the In-group Social Learning method. Trainers explained how sharing personal experiences within a supportive group can become a powerful tool for collective learning and personal growth. Seniors were encouraged to bring their own stories – both challenges and successes – into the circle.
Step by step, participants engaged in activities that combined narration, dialogue, and reflection. They first shared positive experiences from their lives, highlighting how they overcame daily challenges. Later, the group analyzed real-life situations where problems had been successfully solved, reinforcing the idea that every experience, when discussed openly, can serve as a learning opportunity.
The atmosphere in the room quickly became lively and engaging. “It felt good to know that my story mattered to others,” one participant said during the discussion. Another commented: “I realized that I am not alone with my struggles – others have been through the same and found solutions.”
Despite initial hesitation, the seniors soon embraced the method enthusiastically. They asked questions, offered advice, and reflected together on how to apply these lessons in everyday life at the Senior Club. Some participants admitted they were surprised by how much they could learn from each other’s stories.
By the end of the two days, the group not only understood the method but also developed a strong sense of community. The evaluation forms showed overwhelmingly positive feedback. Most participants described the workshop as “inspiring” and “very useful for strengthening cooperation and friendship in our Club”
After the workshop, seniors expressed interest in regularly applying the In-group Social Learning method in their weekly club activities. CDER will continue to support them in embedding this approach into their daily routines, ensuring that peer-to-peer exchange remains a vibrant part of their community. The experience will also serve as a valuable contribution to the ITOSA online toolkit, inspiring other senior groups across Europe.
