Age loud! Campaign

In May 2024, as the United Nations moved towards an international convention on the rights of older persons, Amnesty International launched a campaign Age Loud! demanding a world where human rights last a lifetime, and where older voices are no longer ignored.

Older people around the world are actively campaigning to defend their human rights, whether they’re fighting climate change, standing up for LGBT+ rights, or speaking out against enforced disappearances. They are refusing to back down or be silent. People’s rights can never be taken away. All rights – political, civil, social, cultural and economic – are equal in importance and none can be fully enjoyed without the others. They apply to all equally, and all people have the right to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

Age Loud! aims to change attitudes and inspire people of all ages to demand an end to age-related discrimination, neglect and abuse.

Human rights are universal because everyone is born with and possesses the same rights, regardless of where they live, their gender or race, or their religious, cultural or ethnic background. Therefore, fighting for human rights is universal, global initiative and can be enforced all over the planet.

Raised awareness that older people have a responsibility to future generations to address actual challenges, which already have wide-ranging impacts on people of all ages, increased numbers of older people taking action, participating is activities, voting for change.
